Kamyanec-Podilskiy is one of the most ancient cities of Ukraine and is manifested as one of the prominent places in European history and culture. A rocky island enjoying the embrace of a Smotrich river, carrying its waters in a deep and picturesque valley of the canyon, turned to be a natural pedestal, which became a home of many a craftsmen, who created its beauty and strength for dozens of centuries. Kamyanec-Podilskiy still captures the eye of a stranger with its unique and inimitable unity of the landscape and the architecture. 

The historical past of the Old city still holds many secrets. Scientists and archeologists keep arguing about the time when Kamyanec-Podilskiy was founded. Some historians supposed that stones of the city were laid by Dacias when they fought against the Romans. In those times it was known under the name of Petridava or Klepidava (from Greek “petra” or Latin “lapis” meaning “stone” and Dacian “dava” meaning “city”).
